Study Group Case Study

How can you use colour for impact and functionality?

This project for Study Group is a great example of how colours were used for a very visual wow impact and to provide an uplifting learning environment. Functional also because they used colour to define the specific rooms for students e.g The Red Room.

The use of the lineal colour stripes of carpet on the floor also provided impact and contrast to the walls detailing another way to infuse colour into the built environment.

The project was over two floors, one of which was an existing open space, the other was a heavily occupied education space which required some strip out works prior to fitout. CK Architects were selected by the client to develop plans and gain council approvals. The specification called for bold colours and accents, with clean simple and functional furnishings to create this new learning environment in the centre of the Sydney CBD.

The project was carried out in stages, and often after hours,  to minimise any disruption for the staff and students during construction.

We also had to consider businesses within other tenancies of the building, again completing noisy works outside business hours ; for example: The downstairs café owner and his customers could not be disrupted by noise, dust or fumes this meant  we  had to core drill through the floor slab to run plumbing pipes in their ceiling void in the early hours of the morning and have the premises clean and ready for business by 6am

The project was completed in a timely manner and the end result was a bright and cheerful environment for students in which to learn.
